
Grey SQUIRREL
Sciurus carolinensis
These fury rodents will damage your crops/ gardens and your building structure by gnawing away at timber joists. The grey squirrel is widespread throughout mainland England and Wales, though it is still absent from much of Scotland.
Grey squirrels are active during daytime and easily seen and identified. Two breeding seasons June-August and January to March 3-4 young produced after 6 weeks gestation.
Food: Squirrels eat a wide range of items nuts, berries, fruit buds and shoots to fungi seeds, birds eggs, nestlings insects etc. In suburban gardens most of their diet comes from food put out for birds or deliberately put out for squirrels.
Control is mainly achieved by trapping and proofing your property although poisoning and shooting is also an option for certain locations.
